2011 Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship

The 2011 Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship was launched on the 31st May and concluded with an expanded Gala Awards event in conjunction with a high-profile conference on entrepreneurship - CONVERGENCE Africa. This year we have expanded the Africa Awards to include every country in Africa.

Background

The Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship recognises and rewards business leaders who serve as role models to Africa’s aspiring entrepreneurs and who demonstrate business excellence, innovation and profitability.  

Entry is open to all firms that have revenues between US$ 1 million to $15 million; have been profitable for at least two years; are independent, and not a subsidiary of a larger organisation; have more than 10 employees; are fully registered in their home country and free of legal actions. 

One Grand Prize of US$ 100, 000 will be awarded along with five further prizes of US$ 50,00 each; two of these prizes will be reserved for businesses with less than US$ 2 million in revenue.

CONVERGENCE Africa is the platform that brings together the entrepreneurs, investors, policy-makers and businesspeople who will fuel the continent’s burgeoning growth. This one-day conference is designed to be informative, practical, actionable and valuable. In addition to headline keynote speakers representing the champions of entrepreneurship on the continent, the heart of the conference is a series of Master Classes, conducted by experts in their fields, covering the topics that matter most to entrepreneurs, investors and policy-makers.

The conference culminated in an exclusive session designed to match enlightened investors and a selection of the brightest entrepreneurs and their businesses in a series of rapid-fire meetings – Investor Speed Dating.  VC and Private Equity firms from across Africa and overseas will each hear pitches from amongst 20 pre-qualified potential investee companies.
