Official Site - The Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship is a business competition that recognises and rewards the best small and medium-sized businesses across Africa with prizes of $350,000.

Terms & Conditions

Applications

Only one application will be allowed per company.

All questions must be answered. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Previous finalists and winners of the Legatum Pioneers of Prosperity Africa Awards 2007, Legatum Pioneers of Prosperity 2008, 2010 Legatum Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship and the Legatum Fortune Technology Prize are not eligible to enter the 2011 Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship.

Judging

The organisers of the Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship will solicit and manage applications, and select quarter-finalists, semi-finalists and finalists based on the firms' ability to meet the award’s selection criteria.  Finalists and winners will be chosen by an independent panel of judges.

All decisions regarding applications and nominations are at the discretion of the panel, and the panel's decision is final.

The panel's procedures and deliberations are confidential and will not be disclosed.

The panel's goal is to select winning companies from the list of determined finalists but is under no obligation to make any selections.

Prize funds

All winners must submit a proposal regarding disbursement of prize funds awards. Prize funds should be reinvested back into the business in some approved form: acceptable uses include capital improvements and expenditure, employee programmes and support for existing community initiatives. Funds will be payable to the winner by wire transfer

Travel

The finalists or a representative of each of the shortlisted companies will be transported to the final awards ceremony (receiving one fully paid economy class return flight, accommodation for the duration of the ceremony, and transport transfers to and from the event); finalists may, at their own cost, invite a limited number of guests (ordinarily four) to attend the final presentations, the Convergence: Africa conference and the Gala Awards Banquet. If the company represents the efforts of several individuals, one person must be nominated to represent the company and to accept any grant on behalf of the company as a whole.

The travelling prize winner must possess a valid passport and is responsible for all ancillary costs not listed in these rules, including but not limited to: visa costs, any necessary vaccinations, insurance and unapproved transfers.
